In markets we are used to thinking that more always means more. Economies of scale and network effects are the secret of Big Tech's outsized profits; they also help explain the tendency towards US exceptionalism and the dominance of the dollar.
But a moment's consideration of real world phenomena reveals plenty of instances where at some point more very definitely starts meaning less - most obviously in terms of the human impact on the environment, but even in terms of our consumption of food, drugs and increasingly of social media.
This presentation is not so much an outlook as a state-of-the-world - but seems necessary when AI is set to turbocharge our ability to produce information at scale, and yet individuals' and societies' ability to cope with it is increasingly questionable. The webinar should hopefully help make sense of the rather eclectic range of the slides, which draw on themes from economics to politics to psychology to neuroscience to network analysis.
